Yeah, it’s Because He’s a Jew

Back in 1964, the Republican Party nominated one of the most articulate conservatives of all time.  Sen Barry Goldwater of Arizona, was a man of tremendous integrity and principle.  He was for all practical purposes the godfather of the modern conservative movement.

At 6 feet, he was every inch the frontier cowboy.  He had the lantern-jawed visage of someone whose face was made for Mount Rushmore.

Conservative Republicans were ecstatic when he was nominated at the Cow Palace in 1964.  His acceptance speech was one of the greatest of all times.  His book, The Conscience of a Conservative became the bible conservative movement and remained so for decades.

That said, some people engaged in opposition research put out a meme:  “He’s still a Jew.” And yes, he was a Jew.

Actually, he was part Jewish.  His father, Baron Goldwater, was the son of a Polish Jew named Michael Goldwasser.    His mother, Hattie Josephine Williams, was a gentile and Episcopalian.  Barry was raised as an Episcopalian.  He hardly ever made mention of his Jewish heritage.  In fact, towards the end of his life, he was a vociferous critic of America’s slavish devotion to the state of Israel.

Anyway, Goldwater went on to a disastrous defeat, carrying only six states and 52 electoral votes.  The irony is that he didn’t lose because of his ethnicity.  America, unlike most European countries, was never known for outright antisemitism.  Instead, it was the trauma of the Kennedy assassination in 1963 which made “Landslide Lyndon’s” election inevitable.  He lost because America never had three presidents in one year.

Goldwater knew it, in 1964, he was going to be that election’s sacrificial lamb.  JFK’s memory was too powerful, too beloved.  The national wound, too raw.  Whatever you could say about LBJ (and a lot can be said), he wrapped himself in the mantle of the slain martyr he succeeded.

That was 1964.  Now, sixty years later, we can’t say the same thing, can we?  Josh Shapiro, the hugely popular governor of Pennsylvania, was purposely passed over for the vice presidential nomination precisely because he was Jewish.  By the Democrat Party.

Talk about the irony.  Back then, the GOP was ecstatic about nominating Barry Goldwater.  Five of the states he carried were in the Deep South, the supposed hotbed of American antisemitism.  It was the first time that a Republican ever carried Georgia.

Don’t believe me?  OK, let’s examine the words of one of the Democrat Party’s top operatives.  According to Van Jones, the Democrat Party is not antisemitic per se but “antisemitism is marbled into” its fabric.

As to why this is so, the liberals (many of whom were Jewish) helped transform this country’s demography with the Hart-Celler Act of 1965.  This piece of legislation opened the immigration floodgates to the entire world.  Previously, America mostly welcomed European Christians.  After that date, millions of immigrants from Third World were allowed in.  Many were skeptical of America’s foreign policy.  As the American citizens they were to become, they had every right to be.

The problem is that most Americans –and both parties–were rock-solid support in their support for Israel.  Whether this was wise is a story for another day.  (I’m so America-first at this point that I don’t support foreign aid for any country.  Yeah, you heard that right.)  Hart-Celler made the present political cacophony vis-a-vis Israel unavoidable.

And so, here we are.  The ethno-racial demography of America has changed enough so that the wishes and ideas of many of our fellow citizens now have to be taken into account in matters relating to Israel.  Yes, I believe that Muslim and Arab-Americans are citizens, as well; that’s precisely the point.  Their voices need to be heard.  Their voices will be heard.  And that means that our present foreign policy is not stable.  In fact, it’s downright volatile.

Now, I don’t believe that just because somebody is anti-Israel he is is also necessarily anti-Jewish.  Many however, are; hence Van Jones’ observation that antisemitism is “marbled” into the fabric of the Democratic coalition.  He’s right.  But it’s not just because of immigration from Islamic lands that this is so.  A lot of this marbling is the result of the indoctrination that our younger people have been subject to in our colleges and universities.

Your average college student has internalized the view that the world is divided into two camps:  Colonizers and Colonized.  Oppressor and Oppressed.  And guess what? most “Colonizers” are white, whereas most of the “Colonized” are –how can I put this delicately?–not.  And then there’s the fact that white people are inherently evil.  (But that’s a story for another day.)

Look at the average Israeli, then look at the average Palestinian; the same dichotomy persists there (at least in their febrile minds).  This, plus the fact that Uncle Sam, the world’s biggest oppressor (again, in their minds) is Israel’s sugar daddy seals the deal as far as they’re concerned.

The Democrat Party, which has become so far leftist in orientation, has internalized this narrative, as well.  Thus, those that are not antisemitic are still “anti-colonialist.”  And those that are anti-Israel (and also antisemitic), can make common cause with all of the “oppressed” of the world.  Hence, the impossibility of putting a moderate, popular governor on the ticket.  Even if he’s crucial to ensuring the deliverance of Pennsylvania’s 20 electoral votes.  No matter, go with a loony leftist like Minnesota Nuts instead.  That’s where the heart of the Democrat Party is anyway.  Sure, there were other reasons, as well, but ultimately, it’s because he’s Jewish.  That’s the cherry on top of this sh!t sundae for all practical purposes.

As to what this portends for the future, here’s the thumbnail:  The Republicans will be the party of Israel while the Democrats will be the party of Hamas, at least on the congressional level.  At least for the foreseeable future, in other words until the Global American Empire persists.

But that is a story for another day, as well.
