As many of you know, I have been critical of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese for many years. I’ve also tried to highlight differences between individual parishes and the central authority. (I promise to be more diligent going forward.)
This is one of those times.
As you can see from the photo to the left, Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Asheville, NC, stepped up to the plate and did the right thing. The decided to repurpose their annual food festival from a fund-raiser to a charity. In other words, not only cook and bake their tasty treats but give them away to the people of Asheville, who are suffering in ways that are unimaginable.
As I know from my own experience, this is huge. mainly because ethnic food-festivals are the major fund raising event for the average GOA parish. This speaks well of the people of this community. I am confident that the Lord will reward them.
Perhaps there may come a day when St Paissios’ prophecy will come true and that America will indeed become Orthodox. If more parishes emulate Holy Trinity in like fashion, then that day may arrive sooner than we think.
In the meantime: AXIOS!!! to the fine people of Holy Trinity.

Hi, friends. Don’t know where else to post this? MSM has completely blocked this story, so it’s important we are all aware of it.

Sounds like a case of “toxic masculinity” to me.
Waiting for the “#metoo” to go all ballistic upon hearing this news. Any day now. Hello? [crickets]

I have been to Asheville many, many times, because my 100 year old parents have lived there for 30 years… and Fr. Michael Diavatis is the best! I first met him many years ago when he was serving the Greek Church in Anchorage, Alaska! He has done an amazing job at Holy Trinity! I thank them all too, for their great generosity!
